U.K. FORCES IN BORNEO
Rebel Call To Kennedy (N.ZJ’.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, February 20. The field commander of the Northern Borneo rebel army, Lieutenant-General A. Zulkifli, has appealed to President Kennedy to urge Britain to withdraw its forces from Borneo, according to an open letter from the commander published m Djakarta today. The letter sent to the committee of the Afro-Asian Journalists' Conference which held a preliminary meeting in Djakarta last week, also said Britain was still meeting with armed resistance in Sarawak, Brunei and North Borneo. General Zulkifli said all three territories must be given immediate independence and security forces withdrawn. Political prisoners captured by Britain must be released and the rebels’ rejection of the proposed Malaysia plan recognised.
