SECURITY BAN
Two Union Officials
(N.ZJ’.A.-Reuter — Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 20. Two top officials of the 140,000 - strong British Civil Service Clerical Association had been barred on security grounds from entrance to, or negotiations with, certain Government departments, the association said tonight. They are Mr George Jamieson and Miss Muriel Coult, assistant secretaries representing clerks at the Ministry of Aviation • 1 other key Government departments. Both are known to hold left-wing views. The association statement did not state specifically who imposed the ban, but observers said the text of the statement obviously referred to a Government ban. The association said the two would be placed in other work “while the implications of the embargo are being studied.” The ban action comes after a report on Government security published last year after an investigation by a committee headed by the eminent jurist, Lord Radcliffe.
The report—a result of major spy trials involving civil servants described Communist penetration of the Civil Service unions as “most dangerous to security.”
