Orange Shortage Expected
(N.Z. Press Association) ’ WELLINGTON, Feb. 20. A serious shortage of oranges was expected in the next few months, the general manager of Fruit Distributors (Mr C. R. Walker) said today. Supplies had been cut by the freeze-up in Florida and Spain, he said. New Zealand did not import Spanish oranges, but the loss there had affected world markets. He said the shortage would not be felit immediately as the Canterbury Star would bring to Lyttelton and Wellington next week a consignment of oranges and other fruit from Jamaica.
