PLYWOOD PLANT
Work To Start In June (From Our Own Reporter)" GREYMOUTH, Feb. 20. The intention of Fletcher Industries, Ltd., to start construction work for a plywood plant, at a cost of £500,000, in the Greymouith district in June was announced in Gneymouth today by the deputy managing director of the company, Mr B. Cooper, of Auckland. “The import Licence for the machinery has been granted, and full Government approval has been given for us to proceed with the industry,” said Mr Cooper. Orders had been placed for the most modern type of overseas machinery and this would come from America, Germany and the United Kingdom. As well, the design of the building proper to go up on the 13 acre site the company had purchased was also proceeding. " Subject to the availability of the overseas machinery, and weather conditions permitting steady site progress, we hope to have the plant operating within 12 months from the time we start the construction work,” said Mr Cooper. He gave a rough estimate that between 50 and 60 men would be required for construction work on the plant. Mr Cooper said the reason for his visit was to advise the Mayor of Greymouth, Mr F. W. Baillie, of the company’s intentions, and also to inspect the site.
