ROAD BOARD SUBSIDY
City Transport Survey (From Oar Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. Feb. 30. A master transportation survey of th* Christchurch metropolitan area, to be undertaken by th* Christchurch Regional Planning Authority, will coat £lOB,OOO The National Road* Board was told that the Christchurch authority ha* so far spent £57,800 on it* master transportation plan. In toe case of toe other authorities, consultant* are doing the job. The Christchurch authority ha* suggested that after completing the survey to preliminary design stag**, it should be responsible also for detailed geometric design of to* proposal*. The Ministry of works will be responsible for the engineering work on the motorway proposals affecting the State highway route. The board agreed to contribute 30 per cent of th* cost of th* master transportation surveys for the four areas, but the responsible authorities are to be informed that ahy extension of toe survey beyond the outline geometric* stage will not be eligible for subsidy.
