Hospital Drain A Danger
A 30-ineh stormwater drain passing under several of the Christchurch Hospital buildings constituted a danger because of its age, the chief engineer (operations) Mr H F. Page, reported to the Christchurch Drainage Board. The board decided that the cost of diverting the drain and abandoning the portion passing under the hospital be placed on the coming year’s estimates.
Mr Page-said the drain was of single brick construction. As it was a public sewer, any damage done to the hospital if it collapsed, could be at the cost of the board.
Lottery Winner.—Holder of the winning ticket in the Golden Kiwi lottery drawn on Monday is a Porirua electrician, Mr K. Mahoney, who is married with a young family. “I still can’t believe it,” he said. (P.A.)
