Ashleigh Picked For Omoto Win

The Blenheim-trained Wyebank was scratched yesterday for the Greymouth Jockey Club Handicap, the major race and first leg of the T.A.B. double at Omoto today. Wyebank would have, been bracketed with Silver Wood, which is also engaged in the Atarau Handicap,. second leg of the double. Silver Wood has shown fair ability in bad ground, and that should stand to her. A heavy track is possible and soft going at least is likely after a wet day in Greymouth yesterday. Changed track conditions should not affect Ashleigh’s position as favourite. He has form on soft and heavy tracks as well as on firm ground, and he will have solid backing after a good third to Studio and Super Glen at Ashburton on February 2. Red Jimmy, AsMeigh’s conqueror in one of the distance hack races at Omoto late last year, is one of the stronger fancies for the Atarau Handicap.

If the track does not dry Jimmy, will put the swift Riccarton mare, Gabelle, to the test over seven furlongs. Gabelle has 8-11, Red Jimmy 7-4.

Moorooka, a consistent performer for A. J. Williams’s Riccarton stable lately, Will be at cramped odds in the Barrytown Hack Handicap, the first leg of the course double.

Rae’s Hope and Silver Shell, both from W Dudley’s team at Totara Flat, form a strong bracket in the Novice Stakes, the second leg of the course double. The field* are:—
