Corner's Court MAN DIED OF ALCOHOLIC POISONING IN CAR

A man found dead in a car early on Christmas Day had an extraordinarily high concentration of alcohol in his blood and urine, Dr. P. A. E. Smith, a pathologist, told the Coroner (Mr A. T. Bell) ait a sitting of the Coroner’s Court yesterday. The Coroner found that Cbtai McClusky Crowe, aged 49, died on December 24 in the rear of a car in Manchester street, the cause of death being akohota: poisoning. Constable J. L. White said that at 1.25 am, on December 25 the police were advised that a man had died in a car at 188 Langdons road. He found the body in the back seat. Dr. C. Moody was present, but could not determine the cause of death. The witness said that Russell Raymond Martin, of 188 Langdons road, told him that earlier in the night he and Crowe had gone to Manchester Street Car Sales and had • few drinks. About 10.15 pan. they decided to sit in Martin’s car, and were there foe about an hour. Crowe was

lying on the rear seat, but was not talking. Between 10.30 pxn. and 11 p.m. Crowe spoke for the last time. Martin thought he was asleep, and drove him home to Langdons rood. When Crowe’s wife went out to the car she was unable to wake her husband, said the witness. She found his heart had stopped beating. Constable R. Sterritt, of the women’s division, read a statement she took from Dr. Moody in which he said he was called at 12.40 am. and when he examined Crowe he appeared to have been dead flor at least an hour. ACCIDENT VERDICTS The Coroner found that Charles Mains, aged 71, died on May 20 at the Christchurch Hospital, the cause of death being a dot on the] lung as a consequence of injuries suffered when He was struck by a car driven by Lionel Edward Dobson on the pedestrian crossing in Moorhouse avenue, near Manchester street, on May 4. James Alexander Stephen, aged 40, was found to have died on May 10 on the Main South road, near Templeton, the cause of death ■ being shock and hemorrhages from multiple injuries sustained When the car he was driving collided with a car driven by Patrick Patena.

Reginald Joseph Reidy, aged 65, was found to have died on August 22 at the Princess Margaret Hospital, the. cause of death being fractures of the skull' and contusions and hemorrhages into the brain, suffered when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car driven by Thomas Livings at the comer of Fitzgerald avenue and QaShel street. SUICIDE VERDICTS Merton James Black, aged 29, was found to have died on December 12 at 47 Brockworth place, Riccarton, having committed suicide by poisoning himself. Alfred William James Lane, aged 36, was found to have died on December 19 at 411 A Worcester street, having committed suicide by poisoning himself.
