MODEL POWER BOATS

Use Of Sewage Pond Refused

A request by the Christchurch Model Power Boat Group to use one of the oxidation ponds at the sewage treatment station, Bromley, was declined by the Christchurch Drainage Board.

The group explained in a letter that it comprised 15 members who attended field days once a month and had, in the past, sailed on Lake Victoria and Lake Bryndwr. Every respect had been shown to the properties concerned, but the problem had arisen of “finding a lake suitable in size, availability and privacy from the public—the latter having been in the past a nuisance factor.”

The board’s construction committee reported that, apart from the fact that the area was a wildlife sanctuary, it was doubtful of the wisdom of letting the ponds for the purpose, in view of possible danger to health. The board, on the committee’s recommendation, decided to advise the model power boat group that the request might be reconsidered in a few years.
