UNROADWORTHY VEHICLE
Persistent Driver Faces 12 Charges (From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT. February 20. Persistence in driving a motor vehicle which had been ordered off the road by a traffic officer, cost a Westport youth £3O in fines, imposed by Mr G A. Nicholls, S.M.. in the Magistrates' Court at Westport today. The defendant, Kevin W. Case, aged 18. a labourer, faced 12 charges.
He was fined £lO on each of three of operating a ■ car which he had been warned to take off the road.
On four charges of driving a vehicle with no warrant of fitness, four of operating an unlicensed vehicle, one of running a noisy car and one of driving a vehicle which was in an unroadworthy condition, defendant was convicted and ordered to pay 30s costs in each case. Traffic Officer H. A. Loper, of Westport, said that on January 28 he had seen Case driving a defective car at Westport. The car had no warrant and no licence. Case had been warned to take it off the road, but on three later occasions had been seen driving the vehicle.
Witness said that Case had explained that he had found the cost of repairs to be too high and he was trying to put the car in order himself.
