HALBERG IN TROT
Invercargill Meeting
“The Press" Special Service JNVTSROARG4LL. Dab. W. Halbert, the eariy favourite for the New Zealand Trotting Stakes at Addington at Easter, is expected to gain Ms second success for the season in the Monowai Handtoap on the opening at the Invercargill Trotting Club's meeting at the Soutidand Raceway tomorrow. The Hal Tryas gelding, which * rated foe best juvedle trotter in New Zealand at present, has developed into a fine three-year-old. He was given a run st the Southland Non-Tote Club's meeting recently and completely outclassed a field of novice trotters. He is likely to be driven by K. Baßoch for whom he has shown bta beet form.
The double will be on the President’s Handicap and the Southern Stakes for whitoh Deft and Genry Kent will be a strongly-fancted pair. There was rain today and it benefited the track, which will be in good order. Flying Look should graduate to Southland Cup class in the Members’ Handicap. one of the most Open races on the card. Flying Look had has first start for almost two years last month. Meantime he was responsible for an impressive, winning run at the Southland non-tote meeting.
Flying Look was a smart three-year-old and his absence from racing does not appear to have done him any harm.
Real Irish, a last start winner, and First Soto, three times placed from four starts since winning earlier in the season, might be Flying Look's strongest rivals. Trigside’s form has also been useful. Selections:
3 p.m.—Monowal Handicap: Haiberg, White World, Lady McCoy.
