FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anti-cyclone moving away to the east of New Zealand is maintaining a mild northerly airstream over the country. A slow-moving cold front is approaching the south of the South Island from the west. Forecast:— Canterbury.—Moderate north to north-east winds; rain in the alps, elsewhere partly cloudy with some scattered light rain likely; warm afternoon temperatures. Marlborough.—Moderate to fresh northerly winds on the Kaikoura coast with fine, warm weather; elsewhere fresh north to north-westerlies, strong in exposed places about Cook Strait; partly cloudy with a few scattered light showers; temperatures mild. Nelson.—Moderate northerlies; overcast and mild with occasional light rain. Buller and Westland.—Moderate north to northeast winds, fresh at times in exposed places; overcast with rather persistent, occasionally heavy, rain; mild temperatures. Outlook.—AU districts: fine in Canterbury and on the Kaikoura coast, elsewhere cloudy and showery.
