N. CHINA HIT BY DROUGHT

Crop Growth Hampered

(N .Z^.A.-Reuter—Copyright) HONG KONG, February 14. North China and Inner Mongolia were among areas worst hit by drought this year, Radio Peking said last night. The drought, which set in last winter, was hampering the growth of winter wheat and spring sowing. Areas in central China, in the region of the Yellow, Yangtse. Huai and Han rivers, were better off, having received snow and rain in the autumn and winter.

Even so, some crops were suffering from a shortage of water.

The broadcast said precautions would have to be taken against a spring drought in South China, especially in the provinces of Kwangtung and Kwangsi.
