BERTH FOR STIPULATE
Undertaking By Mr Walsh
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, February 14. Stipulate, the five-year-old New Zealand galloper, would definitely go to Australia, the president of the Federation of Labour (Mr F. P. Walsh) said today.
Attempts. earlier in the day to ship the horse from Auckland in the Wanganella failed. The F.O.L. has a ban on the ship which prevents her carrying livestock or cargo across the Tasman.
t A request on behalf of the owner of the horse, Mr A.. E. Davis, was refused by Mr Walsh. Mr Walsh said the federation had an agreement with the agents of the ship that she would not uplift cargo in New Zealand,
“This agreement stands,” he said.
However, Mr Walsh said later that Stipulate would travel to Australia in a Union Steam Ship Company vessel, probably leaving from Auckland. “I have arranged for a berth,” he said. "Take my word for it—the horse will arrive in time to race.”
He would say no more about the arrangements made, but wished the owner, trainer and jockey every success.
The trainer of Stipulate, Mr C. M. Jilting, had almost given up hope of taking the galloper to Australia. "It looks as if the only way to get there is to swim,” he said. But when told of Mr Walsh’s undertaking he was delighted.
