STALLED ON CROSSING
Couple Escape Train Crash
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, February 14. Two Christchurch people leaped from their car stalled in the path of a south-bound express train at a level crossing three miles south of Hampden. North Otago, today. They are Mr J. A. Scott, aged 73, who was the driver of the car, and his wife.
The engine hit the wing of their station waggon and swept it around against a notice board. A piece of metal fell from the notice and cut Mrs Scott’s eyebrow. A traffic officer, Mr D. McPhee, of Oamaru, was folowing the Scott’s station waggon at the time, and treated Mrs Scott’s injury. The station waggon was extensively damaged and the Scotts were lucky to escape serious injury or death, said Mr McPhee. . The train was delayed for five minutes before continuing to Invercargill.
