Table Tennis WALLABIES I BEATEN IN TWELFTH-ROUND MATCHES
Wallabies I, last season’s champions and holders of toe 1962 South Island inter-club championship, were surprisingly beaten by Wallabies II in toe twelfth round of matches in toe Canterbury Table Tennis Association’s senior competition. Wallabies I were sharing toe lead with Selwyn I with 20 points each, but with Selwyn I gaining yet another easy victory Wallabies I now trad by two points.
K. F. Stevison, top player for Wallabies I, injured his back when warming up before the match, and although he put up a game fight in his two matches he was in far from his best form and had to default his remaining games. This meant that Wallabies I had to give Wallabies II a start of three matches, and they went down, 7-4.
University 11, with the hardhitting R. Court in fine form, gained an impressive 7-5 win over the young Dallington team. D. J. Kalin (Dallington), one of the promising newcomers in the senior grade last season, had good wins over M. J. Copper and M. Spinks. Selwyn II had its second success of the season when it beat the experienced South Brighton side. 7-5. Much of the credit for their side’s win went to C. B. Lockhart and R. Harland T. Poynton. who beat Lockhart and Harland, was outstanding for South Brighton.
