PROPOSED PLAN FOR CENTRAL AREA BY THE CITY PLANNING STUDY GROUP.—(I) A northsouth four-lane motorway, mostly on the ground; a short section over the railway and along Fitzgerald avenue to bp elevated. (2) The four city belts become six-lane main ring roads with the exception of Fitzgerald avenue, which becomes a four-lane ring road. (3) Major roads to the city centre and motorways from the central area outwards are the same as in the master transportation plan. (4) Between the motorway and Moorhouse avenue the Sydenham industrial area is served by

a major road along the Brougham street line connecting with the motorway at each end; the whole area served by all-purpose precinct roads. Existing streets will be turned into cul-de-sacs as shown. (5) Central areas within the belts should be intensively developed, with a minimum of zoning restrictions to allow greater diversity and economic strength. (6) The Cathedral Square area is fed by at least three one-way ring collector roads with offstreet parking only. (7) From these ring collector roads, precinct roads lead off, each having Its own cul-de-sac development. (8) No parking allowed on the city belts.
