Assurance To Athletes
Canterbury athletes competing before the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh at Dunedin today will not have any worries about missing heats in the provincial championships at Rugby Park tomewrow.
The Canterbury centre cf the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Arsoctetion decided last evening that perataston would be granted to athletes concerned to compete in the finals if they were genuinely prevented from appearing in the heats by inadequate travelling arrangements Members agreed that flight tfanetablee would probably be upset by the arrival in Christchurch of the Royal athletes would have had a bard race the previous day and, taking into account the travel, would not have any advantage over those who bad competed in a tough beat in the morning, the chairman (Mr J E Miller) said. Their chances of selection fat the Canterbury team to compete at the national champwxufiipe would definitely not be Jeopardised. Mr E. Lunn said. If they ran-a good race in Dunedin, it would be taken iota consideration, he said.
