Goldfish In Blue
(H2. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 13.
A shipment of 1200 goldfish in a state of suspended animation arrived in Auckland tonight after travelling more than 5000 miles by air from Tokyo. The goldfish, many of which appeared lifeless on arrival, were in plastic bags.
The process of placing the goldfish in suspended animation is a closelyguarded secret of the Japanese exporter. The consignment, the first of its type to be shipped to New Zealand,
has been bought by an Auckland goldfish farmer. The goldfish are brilliantly coloured. Some are red, white and blue, some black, and others blue and white with spots. “According to Darwin’s theory it is Impossible to attain such colours,” said the importer, who has half a million goldfish on his farm. “It’s incredible. "I have never seen anything like it, and I have been breeding goldfish for 20 years.”
The fish took several hours to come out of the suspended animation.
