AMBULANCE MEN
No Fines For
Early Work
(N_Z.P.A.-Rvuter— Copyright) LONDON, February 12. Two Glasgow ambulance men have successfully appealed against fines imposed on them by their local union for driving to the scene of an accident a few minutes before they officially started work.
This was announced today by the Scottish regional secretary of the Transport and General Workers’ Union (Mr William Scholes) at a news conference.
The men, Mr Eric Jeffries, aged 45 (a New Zealander), and Mr Jon Grant, aged 27, had been fined 10s each for attending the traffic accident. Mr Scholes today said he was putting the blame on no-one. Mr Scholes said the committee, having decided to uphold the appeal, “rejects the report that the fine was imposed by irresponsible shop stewards.”
