Irrepressible In Form

“Ths Press" Special Service WINGATUI, Feb. 13. Irrepressible, Royal Estate, Warfare and Hy came through their final preparations for the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Royal meeting in attractive style at Wingatui this morning.

The course proper, with the treaties on the extreme outside, and the plough, were in use for the gallops. Both tracks offered good going and overhead conditions were ideal.

Irrepressible, with her race rider, J. R. Dowling, in the saddle, showed that she had come to no harm from her winning bid in the Gore Cup on Saturday when she completed a round of the course by coming home the last seven furlongs in Imin 32 2-seec, the final half-mile in 53sec and the concluding three furlongs in 40 l-ssec. Mrs T. K. S. Sidey’s Timaoova mare showed her ability over a mile and a half by winning the Dunedin Birthday Handicap and she has proved her worth in

any going. Warfare (J. Dowling) was equally impressive over five furtongs on toe same track She sprinted the distance in Imin ssec, sustaining her effort over toe last three furlongs in 39 3-ssec. She was beaten into third place in the sprint at Gore on Saturday, but with that race and the extra furlong in the Windsor Castle Handicap, she is expected to go close to rounding off toe double. Astra (C. S. Jones) set out to run a solid round of pace work with a faster dip Over the last five furlongs, but be went slower than his trainer, D. G. O'Neill, intended and it was not possible to get a line on his condition. His preparation has been interrupted by an injured pastecn which he suffered during the running of toe Wellington Cvp.

Astra’s regular rider, R. N. Marsh, has been on the sick list since riding at Gore on Monday, but it is expected that he will be able to fulfil his riding engagements at toe Royal meeting. On the Plough Royal Estate (J. D. Pankhurst) showed his fitness for toe Duke of Edinburgh Stakes when he sprinted three furlongs on toe plough in 38 2-ssec. Mrs H. G. McLeod's Castle Donnington colt was too good for his stablemate, the Messmate two-year-old. Golden Craze, and had he been pushed it

appeared that he could have bettered this time.

Golden Craze disappointed his trainer, A. N. Didharn, and will miss his engagement in toe Hampton Court Handicap. Bador and Dilane, two other members of A. N. Didham’s team, were let off with easy exercise. Bador won the high-weight event at Gore on Monday. Dilane, which was third in the distance hack event on Saturday, is one of toe most consistent gallopers at Wingatui She has missed running into a place in only one of her 12 races this season.

Hy (R. O. Cairns) was accompanied by his stablemate, Ravelston (H. T. Anderton) when he galloped well over five furlongs in Iman 5 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 39 2-ssec. It was a good performance on toe part of both horses carrying highweights. Hy is a form runner for toe Newmarket Highweight. Birthright and Feleka were restricted to pacework. Birthright has freshened since his trip to Trantham last month, where he mastered 9-9 to win the Wallaceville High-weight. On Saturday be has 51b less in toe Balmoral Hack Handi-

cap in which he is topweight

Feleka, the winner of the Craven Plate on an earlier visit to Riccarton, worked well on Tuesday and is in the right condition to test the sprinters in the Windsor Castle Handicap.

The Wingatui contingent for the Royal meeting will leave tomorrow morning. C. S. Jones will have the mount on Valaris in the Newmarket High-weight
