OFFICIAL REPORT

The official report issued by the Christchurch Woolbroker’s Association in conjunction with the Wool Buyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool

"The first section of the fourth Christchurch wool sale for the 1962-1963 season was held yesterday with an offering of 27.243 bales and a further 28.467 bales will be submitted tomorrow. The wools were mainly drawn from Canterbury. Marlborough, Nelson and the West Coast. The standard of the offering was not up to that at' the earlier sales, and while a number of attractive clips were on offer, much of the offering could only be described as good average to. good. The bulk of the offering was well grown and sound but light dust and some yolk discoloration was fairly general both in the fleece and piece wools and there was a larger percentage than usual of cotted lines. The condition of the fleece wool, however, was rather lighter than in December while most of the piece wools and oddments were heavier and less attractive. A fair offering of lambs wool mostly opened up well, being bright and fairly well grown. Generally speaking the offering was up to’ the standard for a February sale. “The sale opened firmly with a full bench of buyers and competition was very keen for all classes of halfbred wools. Continental buyers were again the principal operators while Bradford was comparatively quiet. "As compared with the

Merinos can be quoted as very firm to sellers' favour. Halfbreds. both fine and medium, were from 7} per cent, to 10 per cent, dearer, fine crossbreds 2} per cent, to 5 per cent, dearer and medium and strong crossbreds a full 2J per cent, up. As compared with the recent Wellington sale, however, all classes of crossbred wools

showed a decline of 21 per cent. to 5 per cent. At times the market appeared a little irregular and there were some passings in the early logue. eataFollowing is the official range of prices:— d. d.
