CYCLING T. Cameron Retains Provincial Title

Amateur and cash provincial championships were decided at the combined cycling clubs' meeting at English Park last night. In the 4000-metres senior individual pursuit. T. Cameron (Christchurch) successfully defended his title when he raced in the final against C. Fitzgerald, also of Christchurch. With five laps to go Cameron had a slight lead when his machine punctured. Under the rules the pursuit was restarted at the start of the lap In which the puncture occurred. Fitzgerald improved his position, but over the concluding laps Cameron pulled away again for a good win. The pursuit was a Christchurch club affair with K. Jeffery and B. Berry racing off for third place. Jeffery won. T. Tabak and X Cleary cleared out In the flve-mile junior championship, but were caught with seven laps to go. With five laps to go the pace was almost down to a walk. D. Savage led with four to go. but was soon caught. .Entering the bell lap. Savage made another bld but was soon passed by P Skilling. Coming rbund the bottom banking D. Gutry improved his position, overhauled Skilling and went on to win. The cash riders competed tn title events for 500 metre sprints, and senior and junior mile events. Sprints were decided by the best two of three sprints. In the race-off for first olace. D Swanston beat R. Harrison in two straight sprints. Swanston. as well as being the provincial sprint champion Is also the New Zealand titleholder. F. Hooper beat B.
