Magistrate’s Court Young Man Admits Charge Of Driving While Disqualified

Charged with driving while disqualified on January 10, Graham Alvin Le Compte, aged 21, was fined £3O and his period of disqualification extended for one year by Mr A. P. Blair, S.M.. in the Magistrate's- Court yesterday. _ Le Compte (Mr W. F. Brown) pleaded guilty to the charge. Chief Patrol Officer J. Brown said a traffic officer saw Le Co«npte driving his car in St. Asaph street and Fitzgerald avenue. Mr W. F. Brown said Le Compte had only aix weeks to go before he would have been allowed to drive again. His friend's car ' had broken down and he was finding it difficult to get to work. 'Hie Magistrate said Le Compte’s record seemed impeccable apart from his driving record, so he would not send him to prison. CHARGE DISMISSED A charge against Graham Bernard Stewart, aged 22 (Mr M. J. Glue) of double parking in Colombo street on June 29 was dismissed. Stewart pleaded not guilty to the charge and said he was delivering wool to a nearby store. REMANDED Frederick Carl Rosel, aged 18. a workman, and lan Ronald Julius, aged 17, a finisher, jointly charged with the conversion of * motor-van valued at £325, at Christchurch, on February 10, were remanded to February 15. Rosel was remanded in custody and Julius was allowed bail. On a charge of breaking and entering a home at East Eyreton with intenet to commit a crime, Dave Henry, aged 38, a workman, was remanded in custody to February 15. Charged with indecent assault on a male at Dunedin in August last year, Mervyn Arnold, aged 19, a presser, was remanded on bail to February 15. CHARGE DISMISSED A charge against Desmond William Wild, a company manager (Mr A. K. Archer), of failing to supply information required by the Trans-

port Department was dismissed. A traffic offence notice was issued against Wild when a car owned by him was found incorrectly parked on the south side of Tuarn street on October 8 last year. Letters were sent by the Transport Department asking for particulars. but these were not furnished, said Traffic Officer J. McMorran. Wild said the first letter claimed to have been sent by the department was not received by him. The final letter. sent by registered mail on October 25, was the first intimation he had of the affair. The car was at that time used as a garage run-about and by clients of the firm, said Wild. He made inquiries among the staff, but none could remember the incident, nor could they recall whether the vehicle had been lent at that time. After three weeks, tracing such particulars was impossible, he said. He was quite willing to take liability for the parking offence, as he was at that time the registered owner of the car. but he did not think he should be expected to furnish the information asked for three weeks after the incident.
