Original Floors With Linoleum

More people are designing their floors to suit their own taste and requirements Linoleum is ideal for this purpose because it is malleable, hard-wearing and easily maintained, and the wide range of colours gives immense scope for giving a room a new look.

The handy man may have a natural apprehension about tackling the laying of a linoleum floor with cut-out motifs. However, linoleum can easily be cut with its

own special tool or even with scissors. After a little planning, the job becomes very straight-forward. Imaginative use of linoleum can do wonders when planning a floor for a kitchen or bathroom. In nurseries, it is possible to design a special theme in the floor around a child’s hobby. If a young boy is a railway enthusiast, a floor in linoleum can be made with a fullscale railway circuit. Or if he is keen on far-away

places, the world could be put ait his feet with a map curt out in linoleum. This would help with his studies, too.

The versatility of linoleum enables many striking effects to be achieved. An impression of greater width or more length can be given to a room by clever use of stripes. Different sections of a room can be subtly separated from the living room by clever use of the materials. A linoleum motif can be made by following these steps. Draw the required shape on a stiff piece of cardboard. Selotape the cardboard shape to the main linoleum floor. Cut arouno the cardboard with a sharp linoleum knife to outline the exact space for the motif.

Selotape the same cardboard shape to the different coloured linoleum chosen for the motif. Cut out the motif. This will fit exactly into the space made for it in the main floor.

Using a linoleum adhesive, stick the inset into place.
