Covering Exercise Books
Sir, —I heartily endorse the sentiments of “Better Things to Do” regarding the covering of school exercise books. It is a waste of the poor long-suffering parents’ time, because, make no mistake, the parents come in for the job, not the scholars. I ought to know —I have been at it for years! What is the point of having individual school monograms emblazoned across a good, stiffcovered exercise book, plus a neat space allotted for name and class number, When all that the schools are really looking for is a flimsy paper covering held with sticky tape which peels up ait the ends? Whoever dreamed up this utterly futile waste of time must have had a reason tucked way in some remote corner.—Yours, etc.. DYING TO KNOW IT. February 10, 1963.
