Small Boy’s Big Adventure

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 12. A boy, aged 20 months, who climbed a 12-runged ladder and then 18ft up the steep tiled roof of his Point England home yesterday gave his mother, Mrs G. A. Duncan, some anxious moments until she rescued him. The ladder had been used by two older children to retrieve a ball.

As she went after the boy Mrs Duncan kept calling: “Mummy's here.” Then as she got the boy, she slipped, clutched at a tile and called for help. A neighbour went to her assistance.

A diplomat is a man who always remembers a woman's birthday but never remembers her age.—Anon.
