The Japanese girl swimmer. Miss S. Tanaka, last night smashed the women's 220 yards and 200 metres backstroke world records. Miss Tanaka clocked 2min 29.65ec to the 220 yards backstroke event in a match between Japan and New South Wales at North Sydney Olympic pool. The time clipped s.6sec off the record of 2min 35.25ec the English girl swimmer. Miss L. Ludgrove, set at the Empire Games in Perth. It also clipped 2sec off her own 200 metres record of 2min 316 sec.
