NUN KILLED BY TRUCK
Driver Fined £l5O (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 12. A fine of £l5O with cancel* lalton of his driving licence for four years, was imposed on Charles John McCullough, aged 39, a truck driver, when he appeared before Mr F. McCarthy, S.M., today on a charge of negligent driving causing the death of a nun, Muriel McCrae. When McCullough admitted the charge last week the police said the windscreen of the truck was in “an extremely dirty condition.” Passing sentence, the Magistrate said whether the windscreen was dirty or not, the fact remained that McCullough had not been keeping a proper look-out and a life had been taken. The Magistrate said he took into account that the dead woman’s relatives had taken such a Christian attitude toward McCullough in his misfortune and their bereavement.
“No penalty this Court could impose will equal the penalty of remorse which the probation officer tells me McCullough is feeling so keenly,” he said.
