Firmer Demand For N.Z. Shares
New Zealand shares were in firmer demand yesterday, when nearly twice as many rises as falls were recorded in trading throughout the Dominion. Overseas shares were quiet and mainly steady.
The day’s best rises were recorded by two unlisted shares, North Shore Motors and Rothmans, which improved to 22s 6d and 44s respectively. In first business this year, South Otago Freezing fell 2s more than the dividend to 40s.
A total of 74 issues was traded, compared with 86 on Wednesday. There was a sharp drop in the turn-over on the Auckland exchange.
