£1000 Fellowship Gift By Maoris

WAITANGI, February 6.

A post-graduate fellowship to be awarded alternately to Maori and European university graduates was announced by Sir Turi Carroll in his speech to the Queen at the Waitangi Day celebrations tonight.

The value of the fellowship will be up to £lOOO, and it will be known as the Queen Elizabeth Post-graduate Fellowship. Sir Turi Carroll said: “We believe it to be in accordance with Your Majesty’s desire that in the acceptance of this gift, you should wish it to be devoted ,tc the interests of your subjects in New Zealand

“The gift of the Maori ; people, therefore, will take the form of a fellowship to be known with Your Majesty’s permission, as the : Queen Elizabeth Post-Gradu- . ate Fellowship.” 1 The fellowship will be awarded alternately to Maori ’ and European graduates in ; equal numbers ait a rate equivalent to one award , every year. Opera Rehearsal The cast of the New Zealand Opera Company had a dress rehearsal of “A Unicorn for Christmas” before 67 members of the Sadler’s Wells company.
