FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An extensive anti-cyclone centred near the Chatham Islands extends on to New Zealand. A humid northerly airstream covers the Tasman Sea. Forecast:—

Marlborough and Nelson.—Moderate to fresh northerlies about Cook Strait; light and variable winds elsewhere; cloudy, with some patches of fog at first, but becoming partly cloudy later. Outlook: partly cloudy.

Canterbury.—Light to moderate and variable winds, easterlies predominating about the coast; some areas of fog or low cloud at first, otherwise fine and warm. Outlook: partly cloudy. Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds, westerlies predominating; partly cloudy and mild, with some scattered light rain in South Westland. Outlook: showery.
