(Bv tVS AB VAUGHAMI LONDON. When the girls of St Anne’s College. Oxford, returned for the new term last week, their principal. Lady Ogilvie, told them that trousers may be worn with academic gowns on formal occasions dr-rtar the cold spell. This to common sense in the appallingly cold weether that Britain has been barring. But to treditioo-bound Oxford this was something of an innovation which rather startled the other four women’s colleges in the city Lady Ogilvie is an immensely practical and forthright person on the problems of young women, whether they are merely concerned with the simple matter of keeping warm, or the more complimated matter of sex. “Girls,'' Lady Ogilvie once said, "tong before they leave school, ought to be told of the dangers of drinking and heavy petting. They have to know that to create life through ignorance carelessness and tost to the greatest of human tragedies.” Lady Ogilvie, aged 82, Is the daughter of a parson She to tall, firm in manner and one of those rare women who have made for themselves a brilliant career in widowhood. lege, Oxford. She has been in charge of the 300 girls at St. Anne’s since 1963. Her free time she spends walking and travelling. She likes to get away from the college when she can. to see how the rest of the world lives—tt keept her lively mind in trim.
