Yachting SANDERS CUP TO AUCKLAND
Final Third Gives Lead
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 31. The Auckland skipper, T. Bouzaid, sailing Delta, won the 1963 Sanders Cup contest when he gained third place in the last race of the series on Otago Harbour this morning. This gave him a points lead over Bay of Plenty. Second in 1961 to P. Millar of Wellington, Bouzaid returns the trophy to Auckland, which last held it in 1959.
Final points for the cup were: Auckland, 4376; Bay of Plenty, 4348; Wellington, 4233; Otago, 3445; Manawatu, 3151; Canterbury, 1908; Taranaki, 1871; Southland, 1301; South Canterbury, 935. Today’s race, the seventh and last of the series, was over a windward and leeward course, in moderate to fresh north-easterly winds. Final placings were: Wellington (Vibrant, P. Bates), 1: Bay of Plenty (Bambino, J. Williams) 2, Auckland (Delta, T Bouzaid) •3. . Otago (Coronet, J. B. Bulger) 4. Southland (Heather, M. J. King) 5.
