John O’ Groats, wtach proved himself an outstanding middle distance hack as a three-year-old last season, went within an ace of winning ait his last start, ait the Southland meeting, when Summer Star beat him by a noee over a mile and three furlongs after he had attempted to lead all the way. Mjirror, which has been a winner and three times placed in four starts as a hack sprin’ter this season, will be having her first start in the higher grade. With an aver-

The tihree-year-oild ftUy, Nelli which was the best hack vprtmter at the Wellington meeting, winning the Pencamrow and Kaitoke Handicaps, te to contest the Windsor Castle Handicap at the Royal meeting at Riccarton on February 16. Arrangements aire in train for Neil to travel south by air on the day preceding the meeting. She sufiters badly from leg trouble and her traiiner, W. D. Wylie, considers it would be too great a strain on the filly if she was asked to stand 11 hours in the steamer express. At Riccarton she wall be ridden by the successful northern light-weight, B. F. Andrews, who rode her in her two wins at Trenitham.
