Fewer Births Last Month
There were 24 fewer births and six more deaths in the Christchurch district last month than in January, 1962, according to figures issued yesterday by the Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages (Mr J. Millar). Fewer marriage notices than in January last year were issued, but the number of marriages performed by the registrar remained the same.
The figures for last month, with those for January last year in parenthesis, are;— Births, 549 (573); deaths, 179 (173); marriage notices issued, 188 (201); marriages performed by registrar, 22 (22).
