Bookseller’s Wife Sold Him £12,000 Lottery Ticket

Mr R. A. Jack, of Middleton road, won the £12,000 first prize in the No. 82 Golden Kiwi Lottery. His wife sold the ticket to him so she will now get the £5O commission for selling the winning ticket.

Mr Jack is a bricklayer. He is the father of two children, a girl of 11, and a boy of nine. He and his wife opened a bookshop in Springs road last November, Mrs Jack manages it.

Until the business gets on its feet, Mr Jack continues to lay bricks. It is possible that his lottery win will change this, but he says he does not intend to rush things.

"lit came as a complete surprise. We haven’t got used to the idea yet, so we haven’t decided what we'll do with it,” he said yesterday. The first news of his win came from his sister-in-law who called to see whether he had taken a ticket under the nom de plume, “Jacks Up.” “I had,” said Mr Jack, who has only been buying tickets since last November. The Press Association reports from Wellington that second prize went to G. W. Hawthorne, of Newcastle, Australia, and the third prize went to Canterbury. Unofficial results are: £12,000 14221, “Jacks Up,” Christchurch. £2OOO 222163. G. W.
