Holiday For Schools
In expectation that thousands of primary school children will accept the invitation to greet Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh at the Christchurch civic welcome at Lancaster Park on Saturday, February 18—and that many of them will have a pretty heavy day in doing it—the Canterbury Education Board has granted a school holiday to mark the Royal visit It will be observed in Canterbury on Monday, February 18, and on the West Coast on Friday. February 15.
Two effects of these holidays will be that any West Coast children who wish to see the Queen may travel over the Southern Alps on. the Friday and that Christchurch children will be able to see the Royal party on their ceremonial drive to the airport when they leave New Zealand on the Monday.
