Dr. Arthur Z. Arthur, a mw lecturer in psychology at the University at Canterbury who arrived yesterday to take charge at a new poet-graduate course to danieai psychology, has a wife whose professional career has tocaoet exactly matched his own even to the recent simultaneous award of doctorates of pt*<toeophy to poychoiogy. Ums is the first time that the University of London has simultaneously
awarded the degree to this subject to man and wife. Dr. Arthur (the husband) took a bachelor of science degree to economics to London to IMO because he was then interested to toe social effects of economies. The part of psytooiogy became of in-
creasing interest and he took a bachelor at amts degree with first-class honours in psychology in London in 1858.

But the new Mrs Arthur had another job as part-time senior clinical psycbotogirt at Guy’s Hospital •They embarked on their Ph. D| Work together and together they qualified far toeir degrees. Uncal psychology was still not weH defined, said Dr. Arthur, toe husband and new lecturer, yesterday. There were two types:—(l) that relating to the practice of psychology, which was somewhat faniter to psychiatry; (2) the more general study of human behaviour and making the results of objective method available to psychiatrists. He said he expected his university work to be in toe latter field, for a start in post-graduate training far toe new diploma of citotosi psychology to be taken by oadete in Governmental health services among other students. Dr. Arthur (the wife) is also contemplating taking a poet to danicai pay hology.
