Second Pilot Dies InUA
, With the death of Mr H. I June in Hartford HoepttaL Connecticut, there are now only two survivors of the first
flight over the South Pole made by Rear-Admiral R. E. Byrd in 192#. The two nrvtvinc members at the plane's crow are Captain A McKinley, of the United States Marine Corps, and Colonel'B. Bakhan, a Norwegian. Mr June, who was a member of two Byrd expeditions to the Antarctic, was second pilot and radio mechanic on te first Pole flight On Byrd's second expedition in MSMS Mr June was te chief pilot and transportation offleer. He made several exploratory tri— throu— the Antarctic sled, and aeroFor his work with te two Byrd expoditio— Mr June was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and two medal madab authorised by Congress for expedition leaders.
