Cycling ENGLISH PARK MEETING

Hope Gibbons Race To B. Spicer

The Hope Gibbons wheelrace, over two miles, was won by B. Spicer in the very fast time of 4m in at the combined cycling clubs* weekly meeting at English Park last night. After a mile, the field was in four bunches, the back markers having gained very little. Spicer, S. McCracken, and J. Williams, off 110 yards, teamed well, and entering the straight with two laps to go they caught the leaders. Spicer then raced away from the field and won with comparative ease. J. Swanston made a valiant effort on his own from the back mark, but his was a difficult task and he failed by a considerable distance.

For the first time this season the tandems were seen on the track, and W. Thorpe and R. Mann gave a fine exhibition of speed in their sprint against C. Farrant and P. Davis.
