Concern At System
It was futile for the league and the public relations office to attract people to Christchurch and then find Ant the hotel roster system did not work. This was a bad advertisement for the city, said the president of the Canterbury-’ Progress League (Mr B. X Drake) at e meeting of the league last
Mr Drake was commenting on a report by the Canterbury Public Relations Officer (Mr E. G. Beckett) that the Canterbury Hotels’ Association roster system for beds was a failure, and that people were *'eing turned away from hotels in the city although rooms were available. Mr Beckett’s criticism of the system was quite pertintent, said Mr Drake. It seemed to be a much better
suggestion that the publie relations office take over the work itself rather than have a different girl in' each hotel doing the work for a month. We don’t want to be critical of the individual hotetoafter an. they have their own living to make." mid Mr Drake. It was agreed to leave the matter for Mr Beckett to discum at a meeting with representatives of the Canterbury Hotels* Association, and investigate the possibility of the public relations office taking over the work.
