Five Calls To Fires
Five minor fires were dealt with yesterday by brigades in the Christchurch district. The first call was received at 10.16 a.m. when one unit from St. Albans was sent to the corner of Rhodes street and Helmores lane, where a van, owned by the Home Laundry Service. Ltd., had caught fire. Damage was
slight At 1.4 p.m., units from St. Albans and Central went to a grass fire on Mr J. Blance’s property at 50A Vagues road. Four minutes later, two machines from New Brighton station answered a call to a scrub fire on a vacant section at Aston street. North Beach.
A footwear repair shop owned by Mr Bruce Briggs at IMB Stanmore road was slightly damaged shortly after 2 pm. Two unite from Central attended. One unit from Sockbum answered a call to a pit fire at Middlepark Motels. 120 Mato South road, at 8.6 pjn. A buftdoeer was used to assist the brigade to extinguish the blaze. There was no damage.
