Between Over

After losing its first four batsmen for only 37 runs on the first day, much resolution and application were required for Lancaster Park to reach 366 and beat Old Boys. C. E. Reid played a major part in his team’s success, and for most of his innings of 92 he looked a very good player. He displayed sound defence and a good range of shots and should now have many more good scores ahead. It is difficult to understand why Lancaster Park, after dominating the senior championship for the last few seasons, should find itself at the bottom of the table this year. With D. J McKendry at No. 11, the team, on paper at least, has a strong batting list, and in the victory over Old Boys, only A. Westwood of the last seven in the order failed.

1. McK. Sinclair has per- I; formed well in his first sea- ;; son as captain of Riccarton, ; > now the leader of the senior ' i

competition. His aggressive ' batting occasionally has got ; his team out of trouble and ■ his fielding at mid-off has ! been an inspiration to the ; other fieldsmen. As a ' change bowler he has been ' most effective and it is sur- | prising that he does not ; bowl himself more often. ,
