Adventists Give Estimate

The value of welfare work done by the South Island members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church last year was estimated at £11,732, and at £18,045 over two years, by the secretary of the home missionary department (Pastor J. J. Dever).

In a report presented to the biennial session of the church in Christchurch, Pastor Dever said 19,148 hours were given by voluntary workers for social and welfare work last year, and 36,540 in the last two years. Officers re-elected for the next two years are: president of the conference and secretary of the religious liberty and educational departments, Pastor H. W. Hollingsworth; secretary-treasurer to the conference and manager of Ilam Lodge old people’s home; Mr D. R. Eliot; secretary of the home missionary, Sabbath school, public relations and radio-television departments, Pastor J. J. Dever; secretary of the missionary volunteer and temperance departments, Pastor J. B. Trim; secretary of the publishing department, Mr W. Pitt; manager of the South New Zealand Book and Bible House, Mr C. Akroyd.
