NEW BRIGHTON SHOPS
Closing For Royal Visit Unlikely There is little likelihood that shops in New Brighton will close on Saturday, February 16, the day that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will arrive in Christchurch. The president of the New Brighton Businessmen’s Association (Mr F. J. Gracie) will raise the question at an executive meeting of the association next week, but he considers it most unlikely that New Brighton retailers would agree to the closing of shops. The secretary of the Canterbury and Westland Retailers’ Association (Mr N. M. West) yesterday said that there had been no suggestion that Christchurch shops would close, even for part of the day, on Monday, February 18, when the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will leave New Zealand from Christchurch airport.
