PUKEKO AS PET
Wears Pants In House
“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, January 29.
In the house, Blackie, a young pukeko, has to wear trousers but outside the rule is relaxed.
Found abandoned by Mrs M. Earl, of East Tamaki. six months ago, Blackie has become affectionate but not house trained.
Blackie is allowed inside during cold weather and at night or when cats, dogs or other birds are a threat. Inside, the bird’s only problem was the shiny, slippery floor on which even its big feet could not grip. The big feet create problems when Blackie is being put into its trousers. Mrs Earl says Blackie—sex not yet determined—is affectionate and lives on “a chicken-type diet.” It is rapidly changing from a black fuzzy ball with long legs and is spending more time outside. It will still come when called or offered a meal.
Men like to '.e saved from the mischiefs of their vices but not from their vices.— Emerson.
