Two To Travel Overseas
AUCKLAND, Jan. 29.
A team of six horses and riders from New Zealand will compete at toe Royal Melbourne Show from September 20 to 29. They could be members of toe New Zealand team to toe Tokyo Olympic Gaines next year. They will be accompanied by toe trainer for toe New Zealand Horee Society, Mr C. Bolgar, and a manager, Mr G. P. Donnelly, who is director of toe society.
Anotoetr team of four horses and riders wiill compete at a national sports meeting organised by toe Japanese Equestrian Federation at Tokyo in October. The manager of the second team will be Mir B. G. Rutherford, of Christchurch. The trainer again will be Mr Bolgar.
Because New Zealand quarantine regulations do not permit a horse to travel directly from Japan to New Zealand, only second-line horses will be sent in October,
The four riders who travel to Japan wiill gain experience in conditions similar to those likely to be met at toe Games.
A selection committee has been appointed, consisting of Messrs B. G. Rutherford (Christchurch), E. G. O.
Rutherford (Christchurch), B. R. U. Burke (Gisborne), W. R. Duncan (Taihape), H. T. Simmons (Hastings), S.C. Taylor (Mangatangi) and J. E. Brunton (Dunedin).
With toe exception of Messrs B. G. and E. G. Rutherford, all members of the selection committee will be present at the Royal Horse of the Year Show in Auckland next month.
