INDICATIONS FOR DRAW
One Day’s Play Left In Test (NZ. Press Association—Copyright) ADELAIDE, January 29. Australia had a lead of 287 runs with four wickets standing after a tense fourth day’s play in the fourth test here today. Ahead by 62 runs on the first innings, Australia scored 225 for six in its second innings. The final day tomorrow could be a thriller but indications are for a draw.
The pitch is in excellent condition and showing no tfigns of real spin. England, from an overnight 328 for
nine, was dwnwiaed lor 331 this morning after ondy 14 deliveries broke the last pair. But Austratta was away to a bad start when Lawry fell for 16 and Harvey for 6 be. fore lunch. A doctor said they were suffering from pharyngitis. Allen and ndicghit substituted in the field. Booth provided one of the few thrills of the partnership when he hit Titmus for s:x over long-on. Booth’s and Simpson’s stand was worth 133 in 162 minutes for Australia. Dexter’s eleventh over provided sensations when he dismissed both batsmen
caught behind the wicket by Smith. Dexter claimed his third wicket when Shepherd spooned a weak drive into Tiitmus’s hands. The Australian mid-innings stump continued when the veteran Queenslander, Macksay, edged a catch from Trueman into Graveney’s safe hands ait second slapThen O’Neill and Benaud defied England’s speed men operating with the second new ball of the innings and boosted the total from 205 for six to 225 for six when bad light ended play a few minutes before stumps.
