JOBLESS MIGRANTS
Minister Urged To Halt Entry
IN2 Press Assn.—CopyrtffM) LONDON, January 28.
Because of unemployment, the Labour Minister (Mr Hare) has been asked to stop Commonwealth immigrants coming to Britain, the “Evening Standard” reported. With more than 2850 unemployed men on its books the Paddington and Marylebone Employment Committee is pressing the Minister to suspend the issue of work vouchers “until unemployment
has declined to a more desirable level and the housing situation has improved.” Mr Hare told the House of Commons today that unemployed Commonwealth immigrants in Britain on January 14 numbered 38.857. Britain's total unemployed on January 24 were 814.832. The issue of work vouchers was controlled, Mr Hare said. He would not be prepared to stop issuing them altogether.
